Excellent beans but information technology makes a lot! I did change a couple of things simply I call up the original recipe would be delicious! I used a 28oz can of Bushes baked beans, 1 can of chili beans, and 1 tin can of navy beans. I did use the full cup of sugar and catsup. I sprinkled a good corporeality of dried onions instead of using diced. I as well but used 1/two lb footing beef and no bacon (trying to lower the calories). Let melt for about four hours on low, then i hr on high without the lid.. thickened right up.

I would love to give these beans a attempt. Even so, I am rethinking this simply because no one has reviewed this recipe without making as is. And again, their review is based on their changes. If, afterwards making a recipe, I feel a need to brand changes the next time, I will exist respectful and keep my changes to myself and save but, with my changes. Simply saying.

Made as is: This Hobo Beans model is sheer genius; the key is finding the right quality ingredient brands ( not necessarily the top dollar ones, either !! ) to make per directions---and it'southward not difficult to do. First time, I was amazed at the residue to Tex-Mex and BBQ smokehouse flavour essences, something I really didn't expect. Kids love this dish served them in taco trounce bowls, topped with shredded cheese ( cheddar or pepperjack ) and I've wowed guests, stuffing Hobo Beans in emptied green pepper shells and oven roasting them. This Hobo Beans model WILL inspire you lot to add personal artisan touches / tweaks--simply you got to first make this past the book.

These are very delicious. I did substitute kidney beans with chile beans and pinto beans for lima beans because I can't stand up them. But everything else was as written. Flavor was great.

I liked the recipe. The next time I make information technology, I will subtract the amount of sugar to half. As written,in my opinion, it is a tad too sugariness. I also added hot sauce in an endeavor to cut the sweetness. I will once again add hot sauce to spice it up a bit.

This is a really proficient combination of beans, ground beefiness, and bacon, and the gustatory modality is similar to a traditional Calico Beans. I knew ane cup of chocolate-brown carbohydrate would be way too sugariness for our tastes, so I cutting that in half, and we were happy with the level of sweetness. Enjoyed this with some mini jalapeño corn muffins. Cheers for sharing, this one'due south easy and gets a thumbs upwardly in this house!

Followed the recipe as written ish. Great recipe, real comfort nutrient. However after reading reviews I decided to cut sugar in one-half. It sounded similar a lot of brown sugar for that amount of ingredients and collectively we all idea information technology was all the same a bit too sweet. Will certainly make again merely next time I will commencement with a 1/4 cup and add if I need to. Truth be known I had it for breakfast the next morning. What was I suppose to do? It was only sitting in the crockpot calling my name!

I have made this recipe for reunion, birthdays, holidays and graduations. When I ask what they want me to bring, they always ask for these beans. I normally make 8-10 times the recipe. I use 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/two loving cup of white for once the recipe. I also add 1 Tbsp cider vinegar, and I use dried mustard. Some times I add the Tabasco. I never accept any left overs. The vinegar, levels out the sweetness. Also if I can find them I similar Bush'south small-scale butter beans, better than the big ones.

I have made this using the recipe as written and everyone has loved them. Y'all do get a lot out of one batch. They are cracking for summer parties and pot lucks. My only issue is they are very sweet so side by side time I would lessen the amount of sugar. (Of grade this is only my preference on how I prefer beans).
03/12/2017
It was a slap-up dish. I did as others had suggested and only employ one-half of the sugar, I think a full cup would be way to sweetness. I as well added some BBQ sauce to mine.

I brand one similar to this, except I used the, baby lima, lite red kidney, Van Camp pork beans(no pork). Cooked: one/two lbTurkey hamburger, one pkg-turkey Sausage sweetness or turkey kelbsa. 1 small onion chopped. 5-10 slices ofTurkey bacon not cooked chopped add with 4 tblspn butter squares on top. No mustard, but added dashes of honey, ketchup and barbecue sauce to taste. Keep other ingredients not changed every bit listed above. Follow cooking of raw meat above, except bacon. Then combine everthing into large baking dish or casserole dish and Baked in oven 350 for 40-45 mins covered. Uncover concluding 10 mins to brown bacon on top. * you tin can omit dearest if also sugariness. Brown sugar is plenty*

08/14/2017
Everybody liked information technology, especially the kiddos. I left out the brown sugar, cuz I'm a mean daddy. I like that you lot can sneak in some lima beans. Bacon is expensive, so I leave it out sometimes. A dash of spicy/sweet BBQ sauce was well received I served it with sweet cornbread muffins. No leftovers!

This was And so skilful! My vi & eight year former gobbled it up! It'south pretty forgiving besides...changed slightly for what I had on manus & it however tasted peachy. I wasn't really sure if this was a side dish or a main dish but I served it with big fruit & veggie smoothies & called information technology dinner! My modifications (then I remember later)...used a whole pound of bacon...chopped, cooked half way & drained before adding hamburger, used a can of refried beans (no baked beans on paw) and a tin of white kidney beans, reduced dark-brown sugar to 1/3 cup packed, added 1 cup of water with a beef burgoo cube since I did this on the stove elevation non the crockpot, added a couple good splashes of apple cider vinegar and put a one-half onion in to simmer with information technology as opposed to chopped onion (kids don't treat chopped onions only bask the flavor). I let this simmer on the stove top for a couple of hours before serving & it was perfect! Volition definitely be making this again, cheers!!

These beans were delicious! I also halved the sugar - smashing suggestion from other reviewers. As well, in the future, I would melt the bacon start - non with the ground beef. It was non "done'" enough for me.

Information technology is perfect for those who love to cook only either don't have the time or are single. You can have leftovers - -which sense of taste wonderful- - for a couple of days.

Starting time time making it today. Fabricated it for potluck at work. Outstanding. Added black beans as well (actress poly peptide). I retrieve next time I will cut down the brown sugar by half. I besides added well-nigh i/ii loving cup of water and it cooks upwards like chili. Got multiple compliments. Happy eating.

NO kidney beans. . .just rest was wonderful
05/23/2022

Side by side twenty-four hour period fried some eggs and put them on tiptop of the Cowboy Beans then the kids could enjoy 'authentic' cowboy trail food. It was a neat success. Happy Trails...

Followed recipe with the exception of but using 1/four cup of Brown saccharide. Fashion too sweet still for this Southern guy. My married woman, from Boston, loved it! So five stars from her but dropping to 3 as I think information technology has a regional target.

Evertime I have fabricated this recipe, it receives RAVE reviews and I am asked to bring information technology to every office where we are asked to bring a dish to pass. Whether prepared exactly every bit written or when I've inverse up the diverseness of beans, there has never been and then much equally a spoonful left....fifty-fifty needing to double the recipe. In, fact, I'chiliad cooking upward another batch Right NOW for a BBQ tomorrow afternoon

I followed the recipes as written, these beans are wonderful! They are on the sweeter side, so next time I might cut back to 3/4 cup of saccharide, and possibly merely use a whole 12oz package of bacon, because in my family unit you can't get wrong with more bacon!I got the link for the recipe from my sister, who has been making these Hobo Beans for a bunch of our family get togethers. These are some awesome beans!

Honey this recipe.. I make it for picnics quite a bit! It's very versatile, I can mix upward the bean pick and apply chick peas, northern beans, or whatever you lot similar.. I also add together some liquid smoke… squeamish little Kick. I accept to say I don't utilize all the sugar.. I'one thousand not a sweet person, and then I utilise to my liking , and it's most half to less than half of the recipe. I also like reading the others reviews on tweeting.. just a great condolement nutrient recipe.

Information technology was so crawly! Made it exactly similar the recipe stated and it came out amazing! The only affair is that my Crock-Pot on low didn't hear up quite enough. And so I heated it up more when it was done cooking. But all in all, it was a nifty recipe. Plus, I'k injured and have only i arm useful to me and other than cut all the onions, I made it alright! Thanks for such a fantastic recipe!
04/21/2022
Love this recipe. I made information technology according to the recipe with the exception of using i/two cup of brown carbohydrate (since sooooo many reviewers said information technology was likewise sugariness). When I make it again, I'm going to put 1/four cup of dark-brown sugar.....it was very expert but still Also SWEET.
05/05/2022
While we liked this OK, we plant it a bit confusing overall as a dish. It kind of reminded me of sweet and sour meatballs in chili course. The but changes I made were adding a jalapeno and one-half a red bong pepper and using slightly less sugar. Information technology fabricated a lot, which would be expert for a crowd and really went well with my bootleg cornbread. I wanted to use this recipe because it had lima beans, which my fellow really likes, but honestly, all the beans pretty much tasted the same with the sauce.
05/27/2022
Great , " I want more of that" recipe. I used frozen lima beans and cut the saccharide down to 1/ii cup. Yet had the sweet taste. I cooked the onions in the pan with the hamburger until they were translucent and aromatic, I also used 3/8 lb of bacon(low common salt)= half-dozen slices, considering 1/2 lb was eight slices and I ate 2 of them.
I definitely will make this once again.
09/22/2020
Delicious. Information technology would too make a dinner.
08/12/2019
